Like any surgical procedure, nose surgery (also called rhinoplasty) requires you to take some downtime to recover. Every patient is unique, and your recovery will be unique, but some of the things rhinoplasty patients can typically expect while healing in the first couple of days include:

  • Swelling and bruising around your nose and face
  • Stuffiness in your nose
  • Facial soreness

Prior to your procedure, you and our staff will discuss whether any medication is necessary for pain relief, and what you can do to alleviate swelling and pain, such as cold compresses and keeping your head elevated.

Generally, you can return to your normal activities in about seven to 10 days. During this time, a lot of the swelling will go down, although the majority of swelling will dissipate over two to four weeks. The final results of your rhinoplasty will mostly be visible within the first week or so, but very subtle changes in shape may take place over the next year as your tissues continue to heal and minor swelling continues to subside.
